My computer Windows XP cannot run any exe file after installed Norton 360 which auto unstalled Norto

I loaded Norton 360 (free trial 15 days) into my computer where there were virus. When start installing, first unstalling my Norton 2005, then restarted computer. After that I cannot run any icon on screen nor in program menu. If I run MS word, have to go to my picture in start menu, then folder, find a MS word file in a folder, double click to open it, then pick new file to start. I deleted adware and all files in temp, opened in safe mode, as Norton tech support told me, still could not run any exe file in start menu run. After using Panda active online scanning to delete 475 virus in my computer, still cannot run any exe file. I guess when unstalling old Norton 2005, maybe damaged some functions of windows xp. I bought this Sony refurnished computer with windows xp and a lot of Sony software. But I don't have windows xp disk. How can I fix the problem "cannot run exe file in windows xp in my computer"?
