Can anyone recommend virus/error scanning options that are truly trustworthy/safe???

My PC recently encountered a series of problems, beginning w/Millenium Edition obstacles and ending in everything from Emergency Boot/Startups (A:\) to FDISK'ing %26 reformatting (2 hard-drives) to reinstallations (drivers, OS, IE, etc.).

Unfortunately, I've lost all my work (single mother trying to start a small business at home), and wilI have to start over.

My only option was to run Windows 2000 for now, but I'm having slight issues (script error msgs, unable to view some pages, which is disabling me from getting necessary updates %26 upgrades (Windows Updates, Internet Explorer %26 so forth).

I am, however, able to go online...

I was told McAfee %26 Norton fall under the adware category nowadays, and was hoping people could share w/me better options? Possible even free trial versions?

I'm attaching my gratitude beforehand to anyone who can help :)

Thx so much...

Rosa~

Can anyone recommend virus/error scanning options that are truly trustworthy/safe???anti virus

Well I suggest using Windows Live OneCare

I use it and it gives you a 90 day trial and it's only $50 per year but the only thing is, I'm not sure if it will install on your OS since it's the 2000 version. I suggest that as soon as possible, you update to Vista or XP SP2 because I believe that Microsoft is about to completely cut support for 2000 soon. It's really a good anti-virus though.
