I would use a restore point to a time before the download. You can also do an Add/Remove through the control panel.

Reboot into safe mode with no networking (keep tapping f-8 before windows starts)

After running it and wiping out any malware switch to advanced mode and select settings. Select active X and then you will have the option of disabling your problem.

About half the web sites I go to get on will not load and an error comes up or some do not even load. Some sites are even in my favorites that I look on daily and havnt been able to in about 4-5 days. I also use AIM messenger and it will log into my sisters name but not mine, I made another screen name and it still will not sign-in for me. I have ran kaspersky(sp?) in safe mode and nothing came up. I uninstalled that and now how AVG ran that and it found 2 trojans. I deleted those and re-started and still same problems. I have ran spyware and adware programs including spybot. Any help.

Wont let me on my Virus Protection?

I have done everything I can think of to get my computer to work, I know it has a virus, I just cant find it,and when I restore my computer and delete everything off of it, it doesnt work. I have done this about 7 times in the last week. Its literally like someone else is running my computer. When I try to go to an Antivirus site or anything, its like someone clicks out of it. If I google anything with the words such as Spyware, Antivirus, Adware, protection..it automatically x's out of it. When I try to open up the virus protection on my computer, it wont let me. Whats up with this, I don tknow what to do?!?!

You could try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good. Go To:

start

programs

accessories

systems tools

system restore

This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

If that doesnt work it might be best to save all your personal files and do a destructive restore back to factory settings. Not much fun I know. I highly recommend Norton Antivirus 2007. Good Luck

Running an anti-adware/spyware program in safe mode is completely safe. The only problem you MAY run into is the program may not function properly in safe mode (this is more of a programming flaw in the anti-adware/spyware). Depending on what program you use to detect and delete adware, you may want to see if it has a scheduling function built into it and try to set a scan before programs (and therefore adware) are loaded into memory. These scans are usually set as either "At System Startup" or "At Login" and should be able to get the adware before it gets lodged into the Windows OS.

There is the possibility that this could also be some sort of virus. Make sure that if you have an antivirus that it is up to date and you perform daily scans. If you do not have an antivirus, then there are plenty of free ones out there for your personal use! Of all the free ones, I currently would recommend either AVG Antivirus or Avast! Antivirus. I hope this helps solve your problem!

I have been infected with "Virus Buster" adware/spyware. I know other people on here have had the same issue and have received numerous responses.

I use AVG daily and remove adware.

Lately in the morning my computer is fine!

By afternoon (especially if I have to close the computer down and restart/reconnect to internet) I have a huge problem getting connected to the internet.

Either it says the other computer is not responding/the line is busy/and a few other error messages.

Once I do get connected (only in the afternoon) up comes the next problem.

I hit something in my preferences/bookmarks - and it wont come up, but, it does if I go to a search engine - type it in and go there (that is how I got to YA)... Anything internet *interactive* - videos/games/emails - all run very slow if at all.

Problem Two: I wanted to scan using House Call - but prompted I need to update Java and then that I need ActivX - neither will download no matter what I do!

#1 You must be using a dialup connection and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is over booked, so to speak, in the afternoon - too many users, too few modems to connect to.

The other things you state related to problem #1 could also be related to this 'overbooked' connection. Switch ISPs if you can or at least call them and ask/complain.

#2 In Internet Explorer go to Tools, Options. Reset the Security, Privacy and Advanced tabs to Default. I'm guessing that accepting ActiveX content got turned off. There may also be a choice under the Advance tab about Java- select it if it is there.

Reformatting your PC is the best solution to this. Try buying an OS cd for ur system and u'll find out the answer. Make some minor adjustments on the spam/adware filters, etc. Customize ur Internet settings. Try the AVAST Home or Professional Edition, it does me good. Try using a program called spynomore. You can do a free scan, but if it finds spyware, it will cost you $20 to purchase and clean the pc using that program. I've found it to be very effective program though and highly recommend it.

i've had my latptop for about a year, and there's a few minor annoying problems with it, when i hit shift key sometimes everything cap locks, recently, i keep getting a blue screen that says i must shut down, supposedly a 'serious error;' and my computer might have viruses, adware, spyware, etc; i'm thinking easiest way is to buy a protable hard drive, transfer all data there, and wipe out my laptop(how do this?), and then transfer files from protable drive back to laptop; however, if i have installed software such as photoshop, will this be erased also? any other ways to clean up computer?

If your hard drive is infected by virus, you will need to clean all virii,spyware, malware,etc before transferring the files to your portable hard drive.

The procedure you are talking about won't remove the virus, so there isn't any point in doing it.

You have several other options:

1- You can do a system restore to an earlier date when your computer wasn't infected;

2- You can download a tool such as System Mechanic that can run comprehensive scans to find all the problems with your laptop

The problem in your case is that you don't know what or where your virus infection is, so if you transfer files, you will in all probability transfer the virus as well. Clean your laptop and then back up your data so you won't have the same problem next time.

You know what I do instead of downloading a bunch of crap on my computer, I type in Thanksgiving pictures on ask.com or google.com. When I find a picture I like I right click on it and save it to my background. Then I change the color on my background to match the picture I picked out.

Keep getting message from Spy Sweeper that adware.gen %26 trojan.gen are trying to install on my computer, but I can't get rid of them because I don't have full version (only free version)! Here's the thing, when i use Morpheus, i get Henbang and i have gotten TrustIn Bar, both of which are seriously bad. I use Limewire, and it at least warns me that i file may be corrupted, and these problems didn't start at all or become very serious until download Morpheus. When using limewire the only time i got a virus, was when i was dumb enough to download a corrupted file, but it was fixable with Earthlink Protection Control Center, but i use Morpheus and i wasn't able to get rid of the TrustInBar. So do you think i should stick with Limewire. I get Adware just using Morpheus, but at most i usually just get spyware cookies when using limewire. In less than a week, i had serious problems, but over a few months, at most i got deleteable viruses and cookies. I couldn't even uninstall the TrustIn Bar.

Hey, my mother and I have been having a fit with Internet Explorer and this obnoxious little glitch that keeps automatically changing her homepage to www.positivehomepage.com. She said she originally visited this site in a link that was sent to her in an email from one of her friends, but her homepage has been irreversibly set to that site ever since. I've tried to get rid of it and change it back to good ol' Yahoo. I'm savvy enough to know my way around a computer, and I went into IE 7 and reset the homepage back to www.yahoo.com and, and subsequently run multiple spyware/virus/adware scans on the computer to try to detect the cultprit, but with no resolve. It keeps automatically resetting itself back to Postive Homepage as soon as I close the browser and open a new one. I'm at a loss. I have no clue what Postive Homepage is except that it says it's somekind of Christian site, but I think it put a virus on my mom's computer and I want to know how to get rid of the damn thing for good.

I was inferted with some ugly spyware, adware and trojans today. All from a 6KB exe file I ran (stupid me). It was spysherif.

It killed my antivirus, I cannot enable the windows firewall, I have no desktop and I don't know how to restore it.

I reinstalled my antivirus and some antispy software. Removed what I could find but there is a big problem!

Ever since that happened (9 hours maybe) I can see that my pc is constantly uploading something. I think I have uploaded around 400MB of data. Downloaded maybe half that much.

I just cannot find the program that is doing this and I also cannot stop it from uploading.

Any ideas? Do you know any programs that can monitor and block internet access, ports.

Run chkdsk with fix error option, it seams hard drive got messed up.

the biger the hardrive, and ram ,the longer it takes to load up sometimes i think that ten minutes is too long
if it takes that long to bootup its usally due to some sort of system critical error and its trying to relocate the information to bootup.

try reinstalling xp and that should resolve the issue.

If its after a power failure its just double checking everything and probably running a chkdsk to ensure that all the files are where they are supposed to be.

If you are getting more adware and spyware you need to check your settings and see what you have allowed and blocked, and also run anti-spy scans, no firewall program "blocks spyware" it only blocks posible intrusions and software from loading/installing when you don't want it to.
Your best bet is to try and restore your system back to the day before the power failure. If this does not work then you will need to identify what program or process is hanging up. Use a startup manager to remove all startups and then add them back methodically to identify the problem.
You know this is a good question and I like a tough one like this. The NTLDR is the one that has to search for the Operating system take a look at the partition once you get booted up. Go into disk managment and take a peek at it.. I bet that doesnt look right at all. Check out what NTLDR means do a google search. Good luck

I've been noticing over the last couple of weeks that the space on my hard drive is slowing decreasing by 0.1 Gb nearly everyday. I haven't installed anything lately and I move all the pictures, videos, and music I download onto an external hard drive that I bought specifically for that purpose because I have a relatively small internal hard drive. Make sure all boxes are ticked in cleanup.

And the spyware/adware/anti virus updates run daily. They add a little. But disk cleanup will keep it clean.

Right click my computer then system restore and move the slider to 5% or even 3%.

It will remove the oldest restore point when making a new one.

System restore uses the amount of space you have allocated in system restore setup

What you are seeing is System Restore gobbling up your hard drive space. You know it keeps making back up restore points that eat up hard drive space. A useful Windows utility? - at times but as you can see it will cause problems as well - more frequent defrags of the hard drive - after cleaning spyware - System Restore will often restore the spyware with a reboot. Personally - I shut it off on my computer. Right click My Computer - properties - System Restore tab - uncheck.
Try searching for a utility called CCleaner. This cleans out all the unwanted files easily and will restore your drive space.
Cleanup temporary internet files/system restore files.

The best solution I found was to use a program called ccleaner.

This will let you see many hidden files, but you need to be a little careful about what you delete - it will do no harm, but you can delete everything from your hibernation file, chkdsk fragments, and even history of windows downloads and installer files.

It is free, and will do a lovely job of tidying up your registry. Something else - remember to leave your system to do a complete defrag when you finished cleaning it up. I started with a 320GB harddrive a few months ago, and wow - not too long after that I had a shock, and ccleaner safely removed a ton of rubbish.

First what you need to do- is go into control panel, and turn off "SYSTEM RESTORE"- This will ensure that no backed up copies are embedded in the restore files.

No that you have done this click start - run - then type REGEDIT-

Now click on th plus sign next to "H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

Did DioCleaner kill my hardware?

I was hit with DioCleaner adware on Monday, which changed my desktop, homepage, etc., etc. I did nothing. On Tuesday, I figured it was one of those annoying Microsoft update things, so I hit FREE SCAN and saved it to my software downloads folder. Bad decision. My computer then slowly grew out of my control. I looked up DioCleaner on another computer, to try to figure out how to get rid of it. When I found the manual process, I went to go do it... alas, I couldn't open my task manager. It had hijacked my system and completely disabled me from doing anything to neutralize it. I tried restore points, they didn't work. I tried wiping the hard drive and re-installing Windows, but it can't successfully start up in any mode, or boot from the CD... I bought a new hard drive today, installed it, and the same problem, it can't successfully start up. My question is this: Did the DioCleaner affect something other than my Hard Drive? If so, can it be fixed without paying out the wazoo? And how?

Bottom line:

The slow behavior seems to be caused by add-ins.

It seems mostly to be caused by the Make PDF add-in. That's my initial observation. Turning off the add-ins has dramatically improved the performance of both Word 2007 and Outlook 2007.

Here's how: You must be logged in as Administrator.

In Outlook, go to Tools鈥?gt;Trust Center.

Click on Add-ins in the left panel.

At the bottom of the window click on the Go button (Manage: COM Add-ins).

Uncheck any add-ins you don't need or you think might be causing a problem.

Click on OK.

I exited and restarted Outlook at this point. I don't know if it's necessary.

For Word 2007

Click on the Logo button (upper left corner).

Click on the Word Options in the bottom right.

Select Add-ins in the left panel.

Do the same steps as in Outlook.

After making these changes, Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 started working the way they should.

I've had my 5 year old desktop secured with antivirus,spyware,firewall,adware,etc. I just purchased my first laptop %26 since I'm now wireless, my paranoia has come up. You may want to see if you can trade up to more RAM and add a larger hard drive which would be a more realistic "now" system.
