Lately when I do a Google or Yahoo search, I get the search result page as usual, but when I click on a particular link on that page - a New York Times article, for example - I get a spam page. It's usually shopica.com or ToPeekA.com.
I then hit the Back browser arrow and the Forward browser arrow, and then I get the page that I'm supposed to.
I have AT%26T DSL, and I've done a spyware/adware scan and virus scan with AT%26T's security software. The scans don't find anything.
How do I figure out what's causing the problem and then eliminate it?
How do I stop getting a spam page when I click on a Google or Yahoo search result?virus protection
Your PC is infected with a DNS Hijacker-85.255 is a trojan that alters the DNS servers on your computer to point to servers that are affiliated with the trojan creators, hence re-directing you to any site the they want. At its worst, this tactic can be used to trick you into thinking you have arrived at your banking website when in fact you are at a fake website that looks just like your bank's website. At its mildest, it can redirect your search results to various websites. For example, by adding google.com to their DNS server, they can make it so that when you run a search on google.com, they redirect your searches to any site(s) of their choice.
This should remove it, free.
