I have a popcorn.com popup that I have not been able to get rid of. I erase the folder it is in,I erase the notifier.exe file that opens it up, I have ran Norton, SE Adware remover, and Yahoo Popup remover and it continues to come back everytime I go online. Help!!!

Did DioCleaner kill my hardware?

I was hit with DioCleaner adware on Monday, which changed my desktop, homepage, etc., etc. I did nothing. On Tuesday, I figured it was one of those annoying Microsoft update things, so I hit FREE SCAN and saved it to my software downloads folder. Bad decision. My computer then slowly grew out of my control. I looked up DioCleaner on another computer, to try to figure out how to get rid of it. When I found the manual process, I went to go do it... alas, I couldn't open my task manager. It had hijacked my system and completely disabled me from doing anything to neutralize it. I tried restore points, they didn't work. I tried wiping the hard drive and re-installing Windows, but it can't successfully start up in any mode, or boot from the CD... I bought a new hard drive today, installed it, and the same problem, it can't successfully start up. My question is this: Did the DioCleaner affect something other than my Hard Drive? If so, can it be fixed without paying out the wazoo? And how?

Provided you update them all it's no issue. But don't add another antivirus as it's like putting 2 head chefs in the kitchen (most likely they will kill each other).

Spyware cleaners are ok if you have more than 1. Think of them as kitchen staffs (one does the desserts, another the dishes, etc).

They instruct you to delete the files by "Perform action" "clear all files" or something like that, but I cannot even press the "perform action" button on my sophos... Bottom line:

The slow behavior seems to be caused by add-ins.

It seems mostly to be caused by the Make PDF add-in. That's my initial observation. Turning off the add-ins has dramatically improved the performance of both Word 2007 and Outlook 2007.

Here's how: You must be logged in as Administrator.

In Outlook, go to Tools鈥?gt;Trust Center.

Click on Add-ins in the left panel.

At the bottom of the window click on the Go button (Manage: COM Add-ins).

Uncheck any add-ins you don't need or you think might be causing a problem.

Click on OK.

I exited and restarted Outlook at this point. I don't know if it's necessary.

For Word 2007

Click on the Logo button (upper left corner).

Click on the Word Options in the bottom right.

Select Add-ins in the left panel.

Do the same steps as in Outlook.

After making these changes, Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 started working the way they should.

I've had my 5 year old desktop secured with antivirus,spyware,firewall,adware,etc. I just purchased my first laptop %26 since I'm now wireless, my paranoia has come up. Firefox is a bit faster for me than IE. But thats not the reason why i chose to use firefox. Firefox is more secure than ie. An example would be me visiting a site and some members complain of being infected with constant advertisement pop ups etc. Everyone who said they were infected were IE users. The rest were non IE users.

A while ago I had some sort of virus / adware (whatever it was) on my computer, it would send annoying pop ups and place shortcuts on my desktop when i was both online and offline.

I used programs to delete it but when i restarted my computer it would come back.

A few weeks ago a pop-up i hadnt seen before came up in the bottom right corner and said that it was removed, but now I'm scared to restart my computer in case it comes back.

If nothing works try Spybot Search %26 Destroy to delete a spyware.
You can restart it and if it does come back, instead of doing a bunch of scans with all sort of programs. I would go here and ask for help, they will work with you step by step to remove the infection.

Clicked on a link to a website in a wiki that I trusted, link contained "nyud.net" worried

I recently visited a wiki I frequent, and clicked on a link within the wiki. I noticed something strange, the link said "nyud.net" instead of what the link description said. The page I was taken to was all blank except for "HI"

I was then a bit freaked out and went to cmd and typed "netstat -b" and saw several strange websites and IPs connected to my computer. Increasingly freaked out at this point, I unplugged my ethernet cable and did a virus scan in safe mode. Nothing came up. I then started up in normal mode and did a spyware scan, and two high risk (as the program classified) items came up:

"Trojan.Agent.HT" with the infection being "vsid www.adbaaz.com"

The second high risk item was:

Adware.Agent.BN

infection at 'ractive.com'

My anti-spyware software was able to remove both, and out of paranoia I did 2 more scans, they didn't come up again.

Am I safe? What additional action should I take?

Scanning makes no system changes. Before using it to remove something make sure you know exactly what you are removing. If you remove a important system process you may do serious damage.

I used to use McAfee but found that Norton Anti-virus was far more efficient in virus detection and was also much easier to configure. It is a bit of a memory hog, however. If Norton says you have a virus, then I would trust them and delete it. For increased spyware detection, I recommend Ad-Adware for a reliable free program and SpySweeper for subscription program ($50 per year but it's the best around).

i wouldnt suggest it. I got atrojan just like that one on my laptop, and when i switched, i couldnt catch the virus. The virus let worse ones in and crashed my computer. I suggest u go to bullguard.com and post on the forums for advice. Hope this helps!

More specifically, all I need to be able to do is to get the percentage chance of winning a no-limit Texas Hold'em game with a specific starting hand and number of players (without knowledge of the other player's hands, of course). I am so sick of my computer LoL* But who isn't?

I have win xp home. No security protection because everytime I try and put something on my computer to *protect* it I get the dreaded blue screen!

I have now downloaded ccleaner which seems to be the only thing that will work, but it doens't get rid of viruses etc.

I have tons of trojans, adware, spyware. As of yesterday I now have this blinking icon in my system tray which goes from a question mark to a red X and tells me system alert every 5 second. If I click on it, it takes me to spylocked.com. I can NOT get rid of it...and I really think that it is most of my problem.

AND NOW when I try and open my IE up. It doesn't allow me to go to a website. It just sits there and says searching....but if I click on the searbar it allows me to go.

Well... you can try torrent files, just get the ones that are a reasonable size then scan it, I use torrent files a lot and I recommend Utorrent as a client for downloading them, I guess you could also visit Download.com, they have some ones for free, but they usually have some logo on it unless you pay for it. I would recommend using torrent files, I got 'Microsoft Plus!' and got some nice screensavers from there.

Windows Defender is useless. It has the lowest detection rate of any antispyware I've tested.

I recommend Avast (www.avast.com) as you your antivirus. It's free and uses less resources than Norton.

For antispyware I'd recommend either Ad-Aware Personal (www.lavasoft.com) or Ewido (www.ewido.net). Both are free and effective.

i got this rli bad spyware problem in my laptop. i tried removin it usin spybot search %26 destroy. it did find several severe problems %26 removed all of em. but it still doesnt seem to work coz i keep gettin pop ups frm time to time which is rli annoyin. i even tried the http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/ thing to remove the spyware. it found several porblems and removed most of em. the only one's remaining is "ADW_AGENT.AQD (says its an adware)" and "ADW_TRAFFICSOL.J (says its a grayware/spyware". how do i remove those? if i need to remove it manually how do i remove it?

You could in install Returnil. That way anything that does install will be automatically deleted at the end of your current computer usage session. Unfortunately they will have until the end of your current session to bother you before they are deleted, but any damage a virus does do is either going to be permanent, such as destroying the computer BIOS or info transferred to someone else, or gone when you shut the computer off.

If you've updated explorer to 7.0, you need to update Yahoo Toolbars.
Your cache is probably full. Go to tools, Internet Options, delete cookies, delete files and clear your history. Also run disk cleanup and checkdisk. That always speeds me up. Good luck.

I have Trend Micro. Today, when I turned on my computor I got this "security alert" with recommendations that I download their removal software. It comes on anytime I hit intetrnet explorer. I did a virus scan and it detected no viruses. under the address bar I have a second bar with protection bar,remove adware popups,spam protection,scan for spyware and security test and I can't get rid of it. Right now on the bottom right hand corner of my screen I have this sign malware threats saying my computor is infected and to click this baloon to download malware removal software. Is this legitamate? If not, how do I get rid of it?

Sorry, but you have inadvertently downloaded a spyware program. DO NOT download the removal tool. It will not remove it, but only install more updates to the current spyware application making it a even more powerful threat.

The toolbar that is showing up is part of this spyware. Does the toolbar have any kind of identifying name in it? This might help you better identify it.

I need good antivirus and antispyware, and all that?

Hey everyone. I'm needing good antivirus and antispyware that doesn't use up a lot of system resources, is good at detecting and removing viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, keyloggers, rootkits, and all that other stuff. I currently have these tools: ZoneAlarm Security Suite, ThreatFire, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware 2007, Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal, CCleaner, RegCure, Spybot - Search %26 Destroy, SpywareBlaster, TuneUp Utilities 2008, and lastly Zappit!. The problem is I know I don't need all those tools for my computer to keep it free from the threats of the internet, so I'm asking you for your help so I can uninstall most of those program for something better, and more efficient. I need it to work with Windows XP, and like I said above need the program, or programs to work well. I'm also looking for something to fix my registry other than RegCure. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. my computer has beome increasingly slow over the past month or so, so i did a few scans for viruses and found that it is infected with quite a few different adware, spyware and trojan thingies. i have tried about 20 different scanning processes but nothing seems to be removing them. scanners from online find hem, but then won't remove them unless i register and pay!

i've been told that even if i do mannage to delete them i will still have problems, is this true??

A lot depends on what anti spyware product you are using but with most you are given an option to have the software delete the spyware at the next start up.

If you do not have an administrative account there is a lot of stuff you cannot do on your computer. If someone else owns this computer, let them know what you're trying to do. If you own the computer but somehow are not logged in as the administrator, you'll need to log in in "safe mode". To do that, tapp the F8 key when you next start up and when given a list of options choose to use safe mode. Then when the log in screen appears, choose to log in as the administrator. Then run the spyware program again.

I have an unwanted icon in my lower tool bar, WIN XP, that delivers a disruptive pop up every 15 seconds. It's a system alert, from a company claiming I have multiple spy/ad ware issues, and they offer, for money, to install their own version of the cure. This began with an initial alert stating I had 127 sites/links listed that were corrupt.

I did go through scans etc. with my legit security, and it shows no such corruptions, and is functional without intrusion.

It isn't strictly a program. I've checked, and I cannot find a way to get rid of it. I notice in the general bar space above, a new "security tool bar" which I also didn't install, request, nor do I want it. The entire thing seems as though the comp has been invaded by an adware issue, soliciting that it can resolve my issues. I did note the company is based in Latvia?Of all places, and I did send a request to stop.

Any valid ideas of how I can rid my comp of this, and end the annoyance factor? Thanks.

No one product is foolproof so you may want to download, check for updates and run these in Safe Mode should you prefer. To get to Safe Mode, reboot your computer and hold down the F8 key while it is starting up. A screen will appear after a few seconds where you can choose Safe Mode. To exit Safe Mode all you have to do is reboot. You should also re-run your antivirus product while in safe mode.

What drivers are you updating? I had a similar issue at one point, and it was due to my video card. Apparently, the drivers that came with it had issues with games like counterstrike, and the exact situation you are describing would happen to me. most likely it was just a prot scan.

When you are on the internet everythign happens through different ports. Email/FTP/HTTP all have standard ports.

It's possible sometimes you could install a program that opens a port for it's use with the Internet. If it's a bad program then someone from the outside could use it to get in.

Luckily you have a good firewall program that caught it and told them to go away there's nothing here. (and most likely there isn't any ports open there)

It's just a persons attempt to crack your computer and get in. I'd say you're fine and have nothing to worry about.

You might be able to install the old hard drive on a new computer and download any files safely, possibly even get the anti-virus program to work and clean the drive, but that risks infection to your new computer. You will need to change the jumper settings on the hard drive from master to slave, and install it as a D: drive on the new computer. Then find a free program that will completely destroy any information on the drive and run that. Download.com has several good ones. Then you can dispose of the hard drive safely. You might also be able to boot from the OS disc and get the computer running that way. Download.com has several good ones, if no new computer is available.

These can be a real pain to get rid of. You can try going into safe mode and running your anti-virus/ad/malware scans.

Reboot your computer into safe mode. (You can do this by pressing the F8 key repeatedly as the computer boots up. You should see the "Windows Advanced Options Menu".

Use your arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and hit enter.)

Once the scans are completed. Reboot as per normal and verify that the problems has been erradicated.
