If I decide to uninstall Norton Internet Security, will Windows Defender be a good replacement?

I know there are some complaints against Norton however for protecting my laptop against spam, adware/spyware and viruses, it's been top-notch. My subscription runs out in a few weeks and I'm thinking of trying other programs.

Is Windows Defender a good replacement? Should I look elsewhere? Or should I stick with Norton?

Windows Defender is useless. It has the lowest detection rate of any antispyware I've tested.

I recommend Avast (www.avast.com) as you your antivirus. It's free and uses less resources than Norton.

For antispyware I'd recommend either Ad-Aware Personal (www.lavasoft.com) or Ewido (www.ewido.net). Both are free and effective.
