Why does my pointer move slowly BY ITSELF sometimes?

I have and use spyware, adware, virus protection and scan frequently and fix problems.

Yes, if it's an optical mouse, this is a fairly common occurrence (depending on what kind of surface the mouse is on). Sometimes the camera gets stuck in a sort of loop that makes the mouse think it's still moving when it's not. This happens to me sometimes. If it really bothers you, try getting a mousepad designed for optical mice.

Mine does it too sometimes, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with viruses or anything like that. I think it maybe the surface the mouse is on is tremoring or something and the mouse is sensitive to that. Or maybe it's on a very slight slant and the mouse starts sliding.
I wish I had a definitive answer. I have two different wireless optical mice, had the same problem with both across different laptops, and the problem survived a reinstall of Win2k pro.

Finally resolved when I got a new laptop with XP Pro. Additional data point: my wife uses same model of mouse, has always had XP and never had the problem.
If you have an optical mouse(the kind with the red light) its may just be a harmless malfunction. Unless it is more than just a small movement, even then i doubt it is cause be a virus or simialar problem.
