What does it mean when someone scans your computer?

I use sygate for firewall and it said someone is scanning your computer. I also use adware and avast. I ran everything and it was fine. So whats going on??

most likely it was just a prot scan.

When you are on the internet everythign happens through different ports. Email/FTP/HTTP all have standard ports.

It's possible sometimes you could install a program that opens a port for it's use with the Internet. If it's a bad program then someone from the outside could use it to get in.

Luckily you have a good firewall program that caught it and told them to go away there's nothing here. (and most likely there isn't any ports open there)

It's just a persons attempt to crack your computer and get in. I'd say you're fine and have nothing to worry about.

Every computer gets port scanned or probed constantly by the "black-hats" looking for open ports to exploit and install malware. That is why you have a firewall. And it did it's job well. And it's the same reason that a firewall should never be shut off for any reason, even for a minute. One can never know when some stranger from the other side or the world will decide to attack your computer.

nothing to worry, Sygate firewalll is saying about any running anti viraus programs or any security program that are running currently

dont think any body is playiin wid ur pc:) it cant be.....
