Virus removed, Can i restart my computer?

A while ago I had some sort of virus / adware (whatever it was) on my computer, it would send annoying pop ups and place shortcuts on my desktop when i was both online and offline.

I used programs to delete it but when i restarted my computer it would come back.

A few weeks ago a pop-up i hadnt seen before came up in the bottom right corner and said that it was removed, but now I'm scared to restart my computer in case it comes back.

Can I restart or will it just come back?

You will need to restart your computer at some point, so I would go ahead and do it - if the problem recurs then you haven't completely resolved it and so it still needs dealing with. If you know the name of the problem program, try running it through a search engine - there are plenty of sites telling you how to remove malicious software - or you can raise another question

Good Luck

Which anti-virus, anti-spyware softwares are you using?

Kaspersky %26 McAfee notify users in the same place as you said.

If nothing works try Spybot Search %26 Destroy to delete a spyware.
You can restart it and if it does come back, instead of doing a bunch of scans with all sort of programs. I would go here and ask for help, they will work with you step by step to remove the infection.
