What are the causes of PC hang or freezing?

lately my pc keeps on freezing unexpectedly. no way to open up the taskmnager just goes into deep freezing even the mouse pointer freezes. i've done all basic trouble shooting i could posibly do.

1.)Virus scaning

2.)spyware adware malware scaning.

3.)regestry fixing

4.)bios restoration to default.

5.)deleting suspicious apps and softwares.

i was running a mere 4 applications and keeps on freezing, not so heavy apps so that may not be a cause.

help me on this pls...
