Ad-ware/Spy-ware question ..?

I just ran my Spy Sweeper and it had 2 cookies or whatever:

"Spy Cookie found: atlas dmt cookie

Spy Cookie found: zedo cookie"

How can I find out what that is? and then my Norton found a "Tracking Cookie" ..

Then I ran 2 ad-ware things from Download.com and one had 2000 something parasites! (some were from limewire though -- I dont share my files either) .. but I cant remove them unless I buy it.

So two questions!:

1. Is there anyway to figure out what each virus does? Like can I just put "Tracking Cookie" in google and it will tell me what it is?

2. Is there any websites that I can download a free Adware thing?

Oh! And another question :] .. when you delete something .. should press "Quarentine" .. or "Remove" ? Whats the difference?

Sorry its alot, I'm trying to understand my computer better LOL

Thanks!

Ad-ware/Spy-ware question ..?microsoft

First, cookies aren't viruses. A cookie is just a bit of text stored on your machine for the convenience of browsing. Some cookies are benign: they may automatically log you into a site or have your current shopping cart for Amazon. Some are malignant, and try to determine your browsing habits or worse.

Second, I would totally disregard that "2000 something" report as pure hysterical hype. If Norton found only a tracking cookie, nothing will find 2000 items that it missed. Even the anti-Norton people around here wouldn't subscribe to that theory.
