I keep getting a DDE Server End Program End Now/Cancel window?

I keep getting a DDE Server End Program End Now/Cancel window when I attempt to shutdown. Clicking End Now prompts the DDE Server (Not Reponding) window and End Now has to be clicked again before the computer will shutdown in Windows XP.

I have already run spware, adware, and virus checks using Spychecker and McAfee antivirus. No discrepancies were found.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem? Google and Yahoo searches indicate that this problem is relatively common, but so far, no-one has provided a solution.

use msconfig to disable anything not absolutely essential, retart and confirm that the error has disappeared. Then, re-run msconfig and enable one item at a time, rebooting and se when the error returns. You then have the offendign program and you can make a decision about it.
